party hacks
a few media outlets have picked up the scent from the latest 'fake dissent' initiative by some as-yet-unidentified smear campaigners. we think the same few people are behind these on-line attempts to talk smack about layton and the ndp. the first incident demonstrated the cowardice of the hoaxsters - it's obvious how pathetic these folks are, though identity theft is no laughing matter. yesterday's bullshit effort was in the form of a press release entitled "NDPers Call for Layton's Resignation", replete with quotes and phone numbers of a handful of supposed dissenters. apparently the names and numbers are legitimate, but the sentiments and quotes are surely not. this whole thing is becoming entirely unamusing.
i may not be in the running for any party loyalty awards lately, and i've never been a top party apologist, but i would never go so far as to Make Shit Up to stir up shit. call me uptight, but i sorta believe that if you've got an opinion you think the planet should listen to, that you think has merit, then be so fucking bold as to put your name to it. anonymity on its own is lame enough, but then to be so pathetic as to carefully research the names of party activists for use in fake propoganda, well that's just sick. let's face it, you don't have to look far to find plenty of credible party activists engaged in public discussion about the flaws of the party. it's one thing to analyze the kinks in the armor, it's entirely creepy and spineless to inflict them anonymously.

Do you think the people responsible for the hoaxes are Dippers? As RP insinuated on Progressive Bloggers here, the language sounds just a little too much like what a Liberal would imagine a New Democrat to be saying. In any event, the language of the hoax e-mails is pretty different from the tone and language used by the Blogging Dippers.
I felt stupid (and annoyed) to have been taken in long enough by the first hoax to respond to it point by point on Audra's blog. I'm certainly not going to bother on any of the others.
yeah, i think they're dippers, or else a crew that might include a Lib or two. i have two reasons for believing this: 1/ distribution implies access to internal party lists; and 2/ i can't bring myself to believe that any Liberal would give enough of a rat's ass to even bother; if i were a Lib, i'd enjoy watching the ndp slip and slide on all by itself, without feeling the need to give it an anonymous, potentially career-ruining shove.
i wholeheartedly agree with not bothering to take on the 'merit' of the propoganda - i'm content enough pointing out how the pathetic-ness of the tactic snuffs whatever argument they might be trying to make.
and if i'm wrong and this is a project of some Libs, then i gotta say, they're even more pathetic than gutless dippers for inventing email addresses and attacking the ndp in some sad stealth mission. why not join the thousands of Libs attacking us in broad daylight?? oh, the weak.
I dunno. I'm a party member; I receive the regular stuff; and I never received the hoaxes through the e-address that the party has.
I did read it on Liberal-dominated lists or sites. That first hoax in particular struck me as very unlikely from a knee-deep. Stephen Lewis? A leadership convention before the next election? Huh???
To me, it takes a really down-and-dirty Rovian to think that ideas that vulgar would work on most knee-deeps. And I think that the downest and dirtiest Rovians are likely to be Libs, possibly Cons.
Or just smart-mouthed guys who work in advertising. That kind of jerk.
Northern BC Dipper makes it sound pretty easy for anyone to do.
that 'how to' is charming, but hardly enlightening - even a tech-illiterate grown up could ask a 6 year old to set up a gmail account, and sure, lists aren't that hard to come by. but ease isn't so much the question as time and inclination - anyone with either for this kind of crap is just SAD. anyways, wonder how clever the jerk(s)'ll feel if brought up on charges of identity theft.
